Tomorrow.io is launching a satellite constellation of space-borne observing platforms to offer global observational coverage and to address the grand forecasting challenges. The Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) team has the responsibility to develop the appropriate assimilation systems and provide the most accurate weather forecast at a global scale.

The NWP team is looking for an Atmospheric Scientist with experience in numerical modeling and data assimilation to extract the maximum out of our proprietary observations. The main role of the position is to develop a state-of-the-science global forecasting system capable of assimilating Tomorrow.io’s observations (microwave radar and sounders) on top of the publicly available ones to provide NWP forecasts and predictions that deliver maximum value for our clients.

As an Atmospheric Scientist, you will contribute to the scientific and engineering advancement of the weather and forecasting capabilities, develop new forecasting capabilities for all the subsystems of the Earth, and apply your subject matter expertise as needed in support of our clients.

Please note that while this position is remote, candidates for this role should be located in the Washington, D.C. or Golden, CO area.

What you'll bring:

  • Ph.D. in numerical modeling in geosciences, e.g., meteorology, oceanography, or related fields
  • At least three years of post-graduate experience in developing data assimilation systems
  • Knowledge of remote sensing methods such as radar, infrared and passive microwave radiometry, and forward modeling and retrieval techniques
  • Experience with data assimilation (e.g., JEDI, GSI, DART) or model validation and verification (MET, xskillscore)
  • Experience preparing instruments for operational use, such as with Observation System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) or observation system experiments (OSEs)
  • Bonus: Experience in applying machine learning applications to forward and inverse modeling.

So if you're looking to join a team that is at the forefront of innovation to help build the biggest weather platform in the world, this is the place for you!

If your experience is close but doesn’t fulfill all requirements, please apply. Tomorrow.io is on a mission to build a special company. To achieve our goal, we are focused on hiring people with different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
